About

james-with-lobster-rollWhen he isn’t eating or drinking,  James Appleby likes to read about eating and drinking.

Tastybooks is a simple site which aims to produce and collect together reviews of good food writing. As an antidote to the swathe of celeb-chef, as seen on TV, money-spinner recipe books which are on offer one minute and propping open the lounge door the next, tastybooks is about enjoying and sharing quality food writing. We may even get round to doing some of our own. The reviews you find here may themselves be entertaining but if not then at the very least you might find out which books not to even lance with a 10ft toasting fork and which to gently warm on both sides by your fire.

There is a dazzling range of food writing out there at the moment; from travelogue, food history, molecular gastronomy, and the politics of modern food production to the classic well-written recipe book - so there should be plenty for us to keep an eye on, particularly at a time when tightening belts could more easily spell conflict with the rapidly improving movement of organic, free range and fair trade.

If you want to get involved with the site, please visit the Contact page or contact via james@tastybooks.co.uk.

In the mean time, please be patient through the infancy of this site -  and we hope you enjoy it.

Thanks, James
